MOTTARONE

The Mottarone belongs to the Mergozzolo group of the Alpi Pennine and with its 1,492 m altitude the Mottarone is one of the smaller mountains of this alpine landscape. Nevertheless it offers an extraordinary panorama.

From its round mountain top one has a unique panoramic view. The high mountains like the Monte Rosa, the Monviso or the Alpi Marittime offer themselves in their beauty, but also the 7 mountain lakes of the surroundings: Ortalake (photo), Lake Maggiore, Lake Mergozzo, Lake Varese, Lake Monate, Lake Comabbio, Lake Lugano.

Lake orta

Flora and fauna are more abundant in the lake since 1990. The industrialisation in the 20th century polluted the lake to such an extent that there was hardly any life left in it. After the restoration of the lake at the end of the 80's there are now again rotifers, water fleas, crabs and fish like trout, char, carp, tench and eels. Today the Ortalake is one of the cleanest of Italy.

ORTA San Giulio

Not far from Cheggino, the picturesque village of Orta San Giulio is located directly on the shores of Lake Orta. Most of the town houses in the old village date from the Renaissance and Baroque periods and give the town a harmonious flair. Orta is one of the most beautyful villages of Italy.
